What this site is
A free, non-commercial index of custody records that Minnesota county governments publish on their own websites. Its purpose is to help someone find where a person is being held and how to contact that jail — the sort of thing a family member needs at short notice and should not have to check seventeen county websites to answer.
Presumption of innocence
An arrest or a booking is an allegation. Everyone listed on this site is presumed innocent unless and until convicted in a court of law. A roster entry is not evidence of guilt and should never be treated as such.
Accuracy, and its limits
This site mirrors what counties publish; it cannot be more accurate than its sources. Records may be delayed, incomplete, superseded, or simply wrong. Charges shown at booking are frequently amended or dismissed later, and that later outcome may never appear on the county's roster at all. People are sometimes matched to the wrong record because names repeat.
Verify anything that matters directly with the jail. Contact details for every county are on that county's page. Do not make a decision about a person based on what you read here.
The site is provided as is, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including any warranty of accuracy, completeness, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.
How you may not use this site
- To screen anyone for employment, housing, credit, insurance, or any other FCRA-covered purpose.
- To harass, stalk, intimidate, threaten, or endanger any person listed here or anyone connected to them.
- To extort or solicit payment from a person in exchange for removing or suppressing their record. This site removes records on request, at no charge, and will not participate in that.
- To republish this data commercially, or to build a paid background-check or people-search product from it.
- To place automated load on the site beyond ordinary human use, or to circumvent its rate limits.
Removal requests
If you are listed here and want your record removed or corrected, email privacy@bigbeefslottools.com. You do not need a lawyer, a court order, or a reason. See the privacy page for what happens next and how long it takes.
Data from county sources
Custody records here are public government data under Minn. Stat. § 13.82, collected from each county's own published pages. This site is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by any county, sheriff's office, court, or agency of the State of Minnesota.
Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, North Star Jail Atlas is not liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages arising from use of this site or reliance on anything published here.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Minnesota, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules.
Changes
These terms may change. The date at the top of this page reflects the current version, and continued use of the site constitutes acceptance of it.
